Oh my, pie!
Turkey, dressing and cranberries are the cornerstones of any traditional Thanksgiving dinner. However, it's not until after the main meal that the moment everyone is waiting for arrives: the presentation of the pie. It's the meal's crowning moment. Homebaked fresh-from-the-oven pie.
Beer is rooted in tradition
When Americans sit down to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner this year, many might want to include a favorite beer with the traditional holiday fare of turkey, cranberry sauce, vegetables and pumpkin pie. A tasty complement to a turkey and oyster stuffing dinner is a golden-colored lighter beer, such as a pilsner or a lager. Heartier tastes like plum pudding and pumpkin pie are delicious with stronger, dark beers with a touch of bittersweet flavor, such as stout.

Replace Electoral College? Watch out
By AMY RILEY
One Citizen's Perspective

I hesitate to weigh in on the week long fiasco of our 2000 Presidential election, but I'm going to anyway. I am just as shocked, dismayed, and befuddled about what all of this means as anyone else. I, too, have probably read and viewed more spin and political poppycock in the last week than I did in the last eight years, and I honestly didn't think that was possible.

Letters to the Editor

Florida's vote must be accurately counted

As a result of the controversy surrounding this presidential election, the media has referenced the presidential election of 1876, where a heavily debated Congress determined the victory of Rutherford B. Hayes over Samuel J. Tilden, with one vote, despite the clear majority of popular votes for Tilden.

Butterfly ballot controversy: How about all the other races?

I am writing about the butterfly ballots that were used in Palm Beach County, Florida during last week's election. All I am hearing from the media is that people are complaining about confusion concerning the butterfly voting ballots. These people claim they are too complicated to use. From what I understand, this ballot has been in use for a number of years in that county.

Clinic closing is very much human story as well as business

On Nov. 1, a letter to clinic patients as well as a newspaper article announced the closure of Emory's Fayetteville clinic. In both the letter and newspaper article, the Emory Clinic said that their decision to close the Fayetteville health center came because of changes in their strategic plan. In the letter to patients, Emory stated, "We feel it (the closure of the clinic) is required for Emory Primary Care to remain viable in today's health care environment."

Gore supporter worries about effect on democratic process

I'm a Gore supporter and a virulent opponent of the election of George Bush. Having said that, I'm also a good American and believer in the electoral process and am a little dismayed at the rhetoric coming from both sides tonight (Friday).

How much liquor do we need?

Student: Buses overcrowded

I am writing on the issue of overcrowded school buses in the Fayette County school system. My bus is very overcrowded. Every seat has three to four people sitting in it. This is partially because many of the students did not fill out and turn in their blue bus card.

Wal-Mart traffic plan was back-room deal; DOT should reject it

It is truly amazing how many people want to preserve the quality of life in Fayette County. I am proud to live in a community where people are willing to fight for what they believe is just and lawful.

Where will all these new stores find employees?

I am very disappointed in our city council for their decision to allow Wal-Mart to come into our city. We can drive about 12 miles to either the location in Fayetteville or Newnan.

Citizens should have a referendum on big boxes

Anyone driving home from Coweta County the evening of the city council meeting got a taste of what traffic is going to be like if the Home Depot and Wal-Mart get built. I used to look with pity at the people commuting east in the morning on Ga. Highway 54. Now I know what they are faced with, as the traffic jam caused by the city council meeting backed up all the way to Doc Fisher Road.

Big boxes will kill Braelinn

Just wish [Mayor] Lenox and our other three nonrepresentative representatives would exhibit commitment to the Peachtree City vision and let Wal-Mart take us to court.

New residents shocked by council's decision

After nine years of living in Snellville, my family and I "followed our dream" and moved to Peachtree City last year. Snellville had become overdeveloped, overcrowded, and a prime example of Atlanta's urban blight, whereas Peachtree City seemed to be a more forward-thinking community and the perfect place to raise my two small children.

We don't want more stores, more congestion, pollution

Councilman Dan Tennant, please find the legal means to stop Wal-Mart from coming to Peachtree City.

4 people against entire city

I am appalled that the majority of our city council members feel it necessary to allow "big box" retailers into Peachtree City. When my husband and I moved here from overcrowded Marietta, we were under the impression that Peachtree City, being a "planned" community, would grow at such a rate that traffic, crime and overall congestion would not be an issue.

Our school board has short-changed students

Are the people of Fayette County mean-spirited tight wads? We have just passed a school bond issue which had been urged, and urged, and urged upon the school board on the pages of The Citizen for many, many months. At the last minute, the board screwed up enough courage to bring a bond proposal before the people, and the people approved it by a wide margin.
