Gore supporter worries
about effect on democratic process
I'm a Gore supporter and a virulent opponent of the election of George Bush. Having said that, I'm also a good American and believer in the electoral process and am a little dismayed at the rhetoric coming from both sides tonight (Friday). A great deal is at stake here, far more than the election of a Democrat or Republican. We must have confidence in our institutions or we have nothing as a society. When the final vote is tallied in Florida, the loser must concede in spite of any lawsuit filed to nullify the result. Yes, individual democracy may suffer a little and the winner will have gained a pyrrhic victory, but juridical remedies will leave a far more bitter taste in all our mouths. I believe calmer heads will prevail in the end. If I'm wrong, God help us all. Timothy J. Parker Peachtree City
