ARC starts work on 'tool kit' topics for Community Choices
The Atlanta Regional Commission recently began work on developing five "tool kit" components that will serve as a foundational piece of the Community Choices program. Community Choices is a comprehensive program that endeavors to take the best planning practices locally and nationally and provide them to local jurisdictions as a variety of choices to help manage increasingly complex growth issues. The tool kit will be one vehicle to help accomplish this. These topics will be developed in two phases, with the first phase providing an overview of the topic, and the second phase consisting of a detailed explanation of how local governments can employ the strategies in their jurisdiction. The five topics are: Infill development and design considerations. Transit-oriented development. Mixed-income housing strategies. Traditional neighborhood development. Uses of overlay districts. The tool kit is being developed in concert with the Georgia Quality Growth Partnership, which consists of more than 35 organizations to promote better growth options in the state. During the early stages of tool kit development, ARC and the state Department of Community Affairs initiated the GQGP to share ideas and best practices and to avoid duplicating efforts.
