Golf camps offered for youth players over Christmas break

The Wendell Coffee Golf Center in Tyrone will hold three junior golf camps over the Christmas holidays. The camps are designed to teach children the basics of golf and how fun the sport can be. Each child will learn the setup, the swing, the pitch and chip shots, the sand shots, the putting stroke and how to hit in the woods. Each camper will receive different instruction according to his or her level of play. The day begins at 8:30 a.m. with a warmup. A swing lesson will be held from 9-10 a.m. each day and will be followed by work on the short game from 10-11 a.m. The campers will work on putting from 11-11:30 a.m. From 11:30-12:30 p.m., campers will enjoy lunch and watch a rules video and will then play 9 holes on the par-3 course from 12:30-2:30 p.m. The camps are open to players ages 6-14. Clubs will be provided if needed and lunch, drinks and prizes are included in the cost of the camp. Parents may also drop kids off as early as 8 a.m. if needed. The first camp will be held Dec. 21-22 and will cost $80. The second camp will be held Dec. 27-29 and will cost $120 and the third camp will be held Jan. 2-5 and will cost $150.
