2 robbers clean out Fayette bank Tuesday

Two efficient and well-armed masked robbers cleaned out the vault at Talbot State Bank in north Fayette County Tuesday afternoon, escaping in and then abandoning one getaway car and exchanging it for another vehicle two blocks from the bank, Fayette County Sheriff's Department Major Bruce Jordan said.

The employees of the bank at the corner of Ga. highways 314 and 138, next to the Fulton County line, were locked in the vault but let themselves out with a key, Jordan said. No one was hurt, he said.

The two black males entered the bank about 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, brandishing a "street sweeper" automatic shotgun and a handgun, Jordan said. The man with the shotgun stood near the door while the other male told a teller to take him into the vault, Jordan said.

The two left within three minutes in a cream-colored Cadillac, which they abandoned and set on fire two blocks from the bank, Jordan said. Witnesses said they saw two men escaping in a red Pontiac, Jordan said.

The amount of cash taken was not disclosed.
