Vandalism can cost
more than money, PTC warns
The city of Peachtree City recently experienced vandalism to the spotlights for the flags and VFW monument at City Hall Plaza, costing $1,245 for replacement fixtures. Recent vandalism acts throughout town also have included graffiti along the path system and damage to street signs and park equipment. "The city can and will prosecute offenders due to the high cost of vandalism, making every effort to recoup repair costs and exact punitive fines," said city spokesman Betsy Tyler. Also, if the repair costs exceed $1,000, the perpetrators can be prosecuted as felons, she said. "Parents are asked to remind children that all citizens pay for the cost of repairing vandalism with their tax dollars, and that certain acts that may seem harmless and amusing can have very serious consequences in the form of criminal records and financial expense," she added.
