Fayette County has long been known its their dominant youth soccer program, but it may soon be known for having an excellent youth football program as well.

Last Saturday, three Peachtree City Packers teams were playing for spots in the Youth Football Super Bowl, as were the 85-pound Brooks Bears and Fayetteville Blue Devils.

As it turns out, only one Packer team is heading to the hallowed fields in Alpharetta and their opponent will be the Brooks Bears. Brooks defeated the Blue Devils 16-14 Saturday at Riley Field in Peachtree City. The 75-pound Packers lost to Rockdale County 18-11.

The 85-pound Packers defeated the South Clayton Eagles 46-0. The first quarter was scoreless but changed early in the second quarter when Richard Lowrance scored the first touchdown. Kevin O'Brien scored next on a 60-yard run.

South Clayton threw an interception on their next drive, one of three picked off by the Packers' Chris Benning on the day. Benning scored the touchdown for the Packers on their next drive and they didn't look back.

"The kids played hard," said Coach David Dean. "We got a good performance from our defense and put a lot of pressure on their quarterback."

Two defensive standouts for the Packers were defensive ends Zach Copeland and Andrew Dean. The Packers' defense only gave up 19 points all year.

The offensive line also played extrordinarily well, allowing the big runs that set the tone of the game. The line consists of Mark Whitlock, Daniel Green, Jacob Copeland, Hunter Brune, Chris Lieb, Gavin Carlson and Howard Patterson.

The Packers (11-0) will meet the Bears (9-2) at the North Park Recreation Center on Cogburn Road in Alpharetta at 2 p.m.

The 110-pound Packers (9-2), coached by Allen Hunt, lost 6-2 Saturday to the Tucker Wildcats. Though they dominated the Wildcats for most of the game, a fumbled punt gave the Wildcats the ball on the Packers' 15-yard line, setting up the touchdown. The Packers' only points of the game came off of a safety.

Matt Sanchez ran for 96 yards for the Packers and Justin Hunt had two receptions for 43 yards. The Packers defense allowed only four Wildcat first downs.

"I'm very proud of our team," Coach Hunt said. "We had a lot of first year players and we made it to the championship game. They played hard all season and everybody gave it their all."
