Fayette vote tally
tops in the state
It looks like Fayette County is number one again. The county's 82.6 percent voter turnout in last Tuesday's General Election is being touted by metro news media as the highest in Georgia, though the state secretary of state's office can't confirm that until all the votes are official. Fayette's election workers were swamped with 42,766 of 51,775 registered voters casting their ballots. Election superintendent Carolyn Combs said she's proud of her workers. "It was a lot. Our managers and precinct workers all did very well," she said. It took workers until 1:30 a.m. to count all the votes, she said, adding that there were no problems like those experienced in other states. "It went very smoothly," she said.
