Scouts honored for achieving Eagle status

Three members of Fayetteville's Boy Scout Troop 71 have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and recently were honored by the Fayette County Commission.

Timothy Douglas Pearce, Erich Michael Bethards and Scott Thomas Verock received letters of congratulations from commission Chairman Harold Bost.

Pearce has moved to another state and was not present for the presentation, but will receive his letter by mail.

Troop 71 is the oldest troop in Fayette County, according to its adult leaders, having completed more than 50 years of service. More than 30 Scouts from the troop have achieved the Eagle rank, the highest in Scouting.

"Not surprisingly, we often learn that some of our country's finest leaders were involved in Boy Scouts as youngsters," said Bost in his letter to the youths. "Perhaps the future holds an important leadership role for you."
