ARC shows off new GIS software

The Atlanta Regional Commission's Geographic Information System Division is inviting you to attend GIS Day today, 2 - 3 p.m. at ARC Offices, 40 Courtland St. NE Atlanta.

ARC will participate in the observance by having an open house and demonstrating its new GIS data CDs. The CDs, known as ARIS (Atlanta Region Information System) contain GIS data, digital aerial photography, demographic data and other information about the Atlanta region.

A key improvement of these CDs over the previous versions, known as EDIS, is that the CDs are published with an easy-to-use -viewing software, ArcExplore, said a spokesman. The operation of ARIS and ArcExplorer can be learned in about an hour and there is no need to purchase expensive GIS software to view, query and create custom maps.

ARIS is ideal for local governments, public agencies and businesses that do not have the time, staff or budget to set up a traditional GIS operation, the spokesman said.

See ARC's web site, www.atlantaregional.com, for a map and directions. Phone 404-463-3155 for information.
