PTC council will
discuss possibility of meetings on TV
By JOHN
MUNFORD
Could it be "Lights, camera, council!"? At its meeting Thursday night, the Peachtree City Council will discuss the possibility of airing council meetings on a local cable access channel. Councilman Dan Tennant asked for the matter to be put on the agenda, although the idea was originally visited in 1998 before it was abandoned due to high costs and a survey that indicated little interest from local residents. AT&T Broadband has agreed to equip city hall for broadcast at no cost to the city, according to a memo to council. However, there still could be a significant expense to operate the equipment at the meetings, staff believes. Council also is scheduled to discuss possible term limits for members of its various commissions and authorities along with discussion about council's meeting rules and procedures. Those items were postponed from the previous council meeting which was slowed by the handling of the Wal-Mart conceptual site plan appeal and the adoption of a "big box" ordinance.
