Patriots have two Heisman nominees

The state of Georgia will forever be linked with the Heisman Award because of its namesake, Georgia Tech's former coach, John W. Heisman. Herschel Walker and Frank Sinkwich, both players for the University of Georgia, were the only two people from Georgia teams to ever win the award. Walker won it in 1982 and Sinkwich won the award in 1942. Soon, there may be another link to the award.

Modern technology can serve an ancient purpose

Many Christians, including church directing ministers, seem ignorant of a modern technological advancement which could revolutionize their effectiveness as Christians. The technology has been around a long time but never utilized to its maximum potential. The device would make it possible for any minister to communicate with any parishioner or any fellow pastor in a moment's notice. It would allow Deacons, Elders, Presbyters to communicate their compassion without the inconvenience of putting on a tie or a shoe.

Community Christian to present Our America' Oct. 21

Community Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will welcome professional actors Noel Holland and Don Gruel for one performance of "Our America" in the church fellowship hall at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21. "Our America" is a secular play incorporating ethics and values common to communities of faith. The piece is multicultural, incorporating history and folktales from five different ethnic groups. Included in the work are songs and audience participation. Following the performance, the actors will hold a question and answer session with the audience.

Supporters boost county clerk of court candidates

For incumbent Ballard . . .

Throughout the past 14 years, I have practiced in the Atlanta area and have had the honor of being retained in Fayette County cases in my capacity as an attorney. Throughout these years, I have found the Fayette County Superior Court Clerk's Office to be consistently the best clerk's office in the metro Atlanta area. In my opinion, this is due almost entirely to the leadership efforts of Mr. W.A. "Bud" Ballard, the Superior Court Clerk.

I have been a resident of Fayette County for more than 20 years and have raised two children here. Both children are in the Fayette County school system and my wife, Cynthia, teaches here. As I approach retirement, I fully anticipate retiring in Fayette County.
