New government Web site gives info on homes, other topics

What do finding a job, getting better health care, contacting your Representative in Congress, reserving a campsite, getting a college loan, and buying a home have in common?

They're all things the new, free U.S. government portal www.FirstGov.gov will help you do.

FirstGov.gov gets you directly in touch with U.S. government services, links you to state and local governments, and connects you to all this information in a new way on your own terms.

Now, with a click of the mouse, you can use this new web site to instantly search more than 27 million U.S. government web pages. Whether you want help starting your own business or getting answers to health questions, you can find it fast at www.FirstGov.gov, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

How does it work? It's simple. At FirstGov.gov you find information your way no "governmentese" or knowledge of government agencies required. The portal makes information easy to find, and it's accessible to everyone who surfs the net.

You can use FirstGov.gov in three different ways by keyword, by topic, or (for the government savvy), by agency. Use the super-fast search engine to zoom in on the keyword you type in. Or, choose a topic, such as "Learning and Jobs," from an extensive list. That general topic leads you to more and more specific information until you reach exactly what you need. Or, you can opt to go straight to the U.S., state or local government agency of your choice.
