Motorcyclists aid
children's home
By CAROLYN
CARY
The Fayetteville chapter of the Gold Wing Road Rider's Association motored to Clinton, S.C. in its annual trek to help out a children's home. Fourteen motorcycles and two "four-wheelers" made the 420-mile round trip. The Thornwell Home and School for Children houses youths from Georgia, South Carolina and Florida and is under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church, Synod of South Atlantic. It houses approximately 100 youths at any given time and they live is small cottages, attending the school on the premises. Nearby is a 350-acre farm that is tended by many of the students. It often takes first place at fairs with its Guernsey cows. Students who are not reunited with family and complete high school on campus are guaranteed free college if they choose to go. Approximately 80 percent of them decide to take advantage of this offer. Chapter P Fayetteville invited Chapter P in South Carolina to meet them and altogether nearly 60 bikers were on hand to present the school with typical school supplies. Stated director of sponsorship Chandra Coleman, "What a windfall. I think we have enough school supplies to carry us into the third quarter. And thanks also for the good clothing. "I think every child on campus has come to look at all of the goodies." For information on the local Gold Wing chapter call its director, Bob Wakeham, at 678-364-1862.
