Lunsford new exec. director of HBA

Elizabeth Lunsford is the new executive officer for the Home Builders Association of Midwest Georgia.

Lunsford, whose previous job experience includes working in the marketing and advertising fields and volunteer service with a nonprofit organization, said that the five-county area served by the association has "great potential for growth."

Noting that the association is currently strong in Fayette County, she said she hopes to focus on strengthening membership and services to home builders in Coweta and Spalding counties, then extend the organization's efforts into Meriwether and Heard counties.

"We want to help our members cope with the issues they are facing," she explained. "We want to be regarded as the voice of the housing industry in our service area and represent our members' interests on the local, state and national levels."

Lunsford said the association will also continue to take part in local community service efforts, including the Scholarship House program, which since 1984 has provided a total of 126 scholarships of $1,000 or more for students from this area. "We invite everyone to go by and see our current Scholarship House under construction in Willow Dell subdivision in Senoia," she said.

Lunsford, who grew up in Senoia, is the daughter of Clyde Lunsford, the longtime plant manager for Southern Mills, and his wife Margaret. She graduated from East Coweta High School, then attended Armstrong State College in Savannah.

Residing in Savannah for 17 years, she was with the Savannah News/Press for more than 10 years. She worked in the general manager's office for five and one-half years, handling the newspaper's Empty Stocking Fund project during this time, and then she was in advertising for five years.

Returning to this area two years ago, she has worked as customer relations director for The Citizen newspapers.

Lunsford is currently a resident of Sharpsburg. She has one son, Stephen Bailey, who lives in Savannah.

The Executive Officers Council (EOC) of the National Association of Home Builders announced that Lunsford completed Executive Officer Orientation training during the annual EOC Seminar held Aug. 15-19 in Savannah.

The Executive Officer Orientation training provides participants with a comprehensive overview of the building industry, association management fundamentals, and NAHB and EOC resources.

The EOC's membership consists of the staff executives who manage the more than 840 state and local home builder association that comprise the National Association of Home Builders.

The annual seminar attracts more than 450 participants and offers diverse, challenging educational programs on timely topics, as well as networking opportunities. Seminar programs are developed from the needs identified from associations throughout the country and result in creative, innovative activities benefiting local association members.

The Home Builders Association of Midwest Georgia represents approximately 440 home builders and their associates in the housing industry in Fayette, Coweta, Spalding, Meriwether and Heard Counties.
