The Sandy Creek Lady Patriot softball team played in the area tournament held at Redwine Park in Tyrone last weekend. Winning the tournament meant advancing to the sectionals, while losing meant the end of the 2000 season.

Sandy Creek opened the tournament on Thursday with a win against Rockdale County. The game lasted nine innings and Sandy Creek emerged victorious, 3-1. Friday's tournament action was rained out, requiring the teams to play at least two games on Saturday. Sandy Creek faced Heritage in the first game and lost, 5-2. Their second game was against Woodward Academy. It also went into extra innings, but this time the Lady Patriots were on the other side, losing 3-1.

Sandy Creek did have several players named to the first and second team All-Area teams and several players received honorable mentions for their play this season. Junior Jessica DeMooney was named to the first team infield, while sophomore Krystal McBride was named to the first team outfield. Junior Carrie Rountree was named to the second team as a catcher and freshman Terri Manthey was named to the second team as a pitcher. Junior Chrissy Lunsford and sophomore Sydney Sned were given honorable mentions in the infield.
