Local football teams have tough week

The sixth week of the high school football season played out the same way the previous five weeks had.

Tigers and Chiefs run neck-and-neck as season wears on

Saturday saw the local cross-country teams participating at meets all over the state. Fayette County ran in the Westover Invitational in Albany, while McIntosh ran at the Alexander Invitational.

Lady Patriots finish the 2000 season in the area tournament

The Sandy Creek Lady Patriot softball team played in the area tournament held at Redwine Park in Tyrone last weekend. Winning the tournament meant advancing to the sectionals, while losing meant the end of the 2000 season.

Patriots have two Heisman nominees

The state of Georgia will forever be linked with the Heisman Award because of its namesake, Georgia Tech's former coach, John W. Heisman. Herschel Walker and Frank Sinkwich, both players for the University of Georgia, were the only two people from Georgia teams to ever win the award. Walker won it in 1982 and Sinkwich won the award in 1942. Soon, there may be another link to the award.
