Night school student
caught with weapons in his truck
By JOHN MUNFORD A high school student attending evening school has been arrested for bringing a weapon onto school property. David Collins Scarbrough, 17, was arrested Sept. 26 at Sandy Creek High School, according to jail records. Wayne Robinson, the director of secondary school operations for Fayette County Schools, said three weapons were found in one student's car during a search. Officials found a pocketknife, a box knife and a roll of pennies, which were all considered weapons, Robinson said. The search was authorized after the principal received information that the student may have had some weapons in his truck. Robinson said this was the first time the school has had problems with this particular student. Scarbrough was suspended for 10 days, pending the outcome of a disciplinary tribunal hearing. That tribunal would determine whether Scarbrough can continue his education in the Fayette County School System, Robinson said.
