John Addison, “Doc” LesterJohn Addison, “Doc” Lester, 94, Fayetteville, died Feb. 10, 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Addison and Bertha Clyde Graham Lester Sr., his wife, Margaret Mann Lester, and a great-grandson, Ennis G. Laney V. He was born and died in the same house. He enjoyed a long career as a farmer, business owner and city manager of Fayetteville. Great pleasure was taken in sharing surplus from his garden with many in the community. Jo Ann Stuard DobbsJo Ann Stuard Dobbs died Feb. 10, 2008. She was born Aug. 20, 1938 to the late Jack Rufus and Leona Laverne Harrison Stuard. She was also preceded in death by a brother, John Lee Stuard, sisters, Leita Meyers and Betty Caddell, and a great-grandson, Bradley Cole Hicks. She was a fiercely proud Texan. Over the years she gave money, time, prayers, and talents to many ministries. She particularly loved to sing and share the word of God. She loved Bible study so much she made a trip to Israel to see sites firsthand. She was a member of Peachtree City Christian Church. Besides singing, she loved gardening, politics, baking and socializing with friends and family. Howell Alonzo Ray Jr.Howell Alonzo “H. A.” and “Pawpaw” Ray Jr., 75, Fayetteville, formerly of Hapeville, died Feb. 11, 2008. He was born in Muscadine, Ala., on Aug. Chris Perkins and the Rev. Glenn Stringham will officiate, with interment at Westminster Gardens Cemetery. Survivors include a son, Addison and Janet Lester, Fayetteville; a daughter, Laurien and Ennis Laney, Fayetteville; grandchildren, Ellen and Brian Jeffers, and Glenn and Dawn Laney, all of Fayetteville, John Lester iV, Senoia, and Adam Lester, Denver, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Anna Jeffers, and Bennett Jeffers, both of Fayetteville; one nephew; and two nieces. James Donald TaylorJames Donald Taylor, 67, Jonesboro, died Feb. 7, 2008. He was born April 29, 1940 in Fulton County. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, James D. Frank Eugene AndersonFrank Eugene "Gene" Anderson, 86, died Feb. 7, 2008. He was born and raised in Atlanta. He served in the United States Navy in World War II. Eca Elizabeth GoodmanEva Elizabeth Goodman, 91, Fayetteville, died Feb. 7, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband, Othel W. Goodman. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and the Woolsey Baptist Church. Alex Steven BaxterAlex Steven Baxter, six months old, died Feb. 6, 2008 after a courageous battle with Congenital Myotonic Dystrophy. Services were at the Carl J. Ann Vaughn CrosbyAnn Vaughn Crosby, 92, Hampton, died Jan. 30, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Franklin Crosby. Graveside services were at Oakland Cemetery, Waycross, Ga. with the Rev. Carole Maddux officiating. Survivors include a son, John Crosby, Stone Mountain; daughters, Dr. Annette C. Frauman, Big Canoe, and Dorothy and Herbert Helms, Fayetteville; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Curtis Vaughn, Meridian, Miss.; and a sister, Willie Bea Lee, Meridian, Miss. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge. James Donald TaylorJames Donald Taylor, age 67 of Jonesboro, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2008. He was born on April 29, 1940 in Fulton County. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, James D. Taylor, Jr. Mr. Taylor was a Veteran of the United States Army having retired a Sergeant after 27 years of service. He also retired from the City of Atlanta after 21 years of service. Louise W. SmithLouise W. Smith, 72, Newnan, died Jan. 15, 2008. She was born April 19, 1935 in Sharpsburg to the late Henry and Mattie Reid Williams Sr. She was also preceded in death by brothers Henry Williams Jr., Grady Williams, and Walter Williams Lynch, and a sister, Katie Maude White. She will always be remembered s a loving mother and sister and her kind spirit will remain with those who loved her. Viola Newson WoodViola Newson Wood, 78, died Jan. 31, 2008. She was born Sept. 3, 1929 to the late Charlie and Annella Gould. She was also preceded in death by daughters, Helen Dixon, and Gail Person. She was a member of The Smith Chapel United Methodist Church, and worked as a Ward Chairperson. For many years she worked as a laborer at Royal Molded Company and Bibb Manufacturing Company. Henry Thomas "H. T." BradberryHenry Thomas "H. T." Bradberry, Franklin, formerly of College Park, died Jan. 31, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Bradberry, a son and daughter-in-law, Buddy and Sandra Bradberry, and sons-in-law, Bobby Turner, and Rick Mathews. Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Neil Awbrey and Terry Harper officiating. Interment was at College Park Cemetery. Survivors include a son, Edward and Tanya Bradberry, Franklin; daughters, Gladys Turner, Carrollton, Pamela Mathews, Newnan, and Wanda Houk, Fayetteville; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Edith Jones LoweryEdith Jones Lowery, 82, Senoia, died Feb. 1, 2008. She was born Feb. 4, 1925 in Chambers County, Ala., to the late Herbert and Lilly Barber Jones. She was also preceded in death by brothers, James F. Jones, and Guy Jones, and a sister, Mildred Jones Saxon. She loved children and her many pursuits benefited them. She was a children's Sunday School teacher, a member of Senoia United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Senoia Library Board. Memorial services were at Senoia United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Danny Barton officiating. William Mercer "Bill" MassengaleWilliam Mercer "Bill" Massengale, 87, Brooks, died Feb. 3, 2008. He was born Nov. 10, 1920 son of William Kendrick and Bernice Eula Shell Massengale. He was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Massengale, and a brother, Henry Oliver Massengale. He grew up in the Starr's Mill area. He served in the United States Army in 13 different countries with the 82nd Airborne Division in World War II. He was a real estate broker and owned an insurance agency around the South Atlanta area as well as serving as a lay minister preaching at several local churches. He helped start the Cascade Little League Association in southwest Atlanta where he coached and managed for 15 years. He was member of Lisbon Baptist Church where he was a deacon and a Sunday School teacher. Hoyt "Jimmy" JonesHoyt "Jimmy" Jones, 88, Fayetteville, died Feb. 6, 2008.
