He was a former member of the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church having served as a deacon and Sunday school superintendent. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Peachtree City, having served as a deacon and an elder. He was recently awarded his 50-year membership pin with the Fayetteville Masonic Lodge #711, where he was also a Past Master. His love of roses led him to become an active member of the South Metro Rose Society.
