William Mercer "Bill" Massengale, 87, Brooks, died Feb. 3, 2008. He was born Nov. 10, 1920 son of William Kendrick and Bernice Eula Shell Massengale. He was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Massengale, and a brother, Henry Oliver Massengale. He grew up in the Starr's Mill area. He served in the United States Army in 13 different countries with the 82nd Airborne Division in World War II. He was a real estate broker and owned an insurance agency around the South Atlanta area as well as serving as a lay minister preaching at several local churches. He helped start the Cascade Little League Association in southwest Atlanta where he coached and managed for 15 years. He was member of Lisbon Baptist Church where he was a deacon and a Sunday School teacher. Services were at the Lisbon Baptist Church with the Rev. Randall Harris and the Rev. Dr. James Stewart officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ruth Massengale, Brooks; sons, Gary and Janet Massengale, Peachtree City, and Rick and Jeannine Massengale, Newnan; a daughter, Donna and Mike Murphy, Fayetteville; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mildred Jones, and Mary Alice and Don Odom, all of Fayetteville. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, the Lisbon Baptist Church Building Fund, or the Myasthenia Gravis Association. Carl J.
