Viola Newson Wood, 78, died Jan. 31, 2008. She was born Sept. 3, 1929 to the late Charlie and Annella Gould. She was also preceded in death by daughters, Helen Dixon, and Gail Person. She was a member of The Smith Chapel United Methodist Church, and worked as a Ward Chairperson. For many years she worked as a laborer at Royal Molded Company and Bibb Manufacturing Company.

Services were at the Roscoe Jenkins Chapel with the Rev. Willie L. Geter officiating. Interment was at Eastview Cemetery. Survivors include sons, Buford and Jackie Newson, Newnan, Jarvis and Polly Newson, Medina, Ohio, and Johnny Harris, Montgomery, Ala.; daughters, Annette Starks, Willie and Barbara Howard, Bette Wilburn, and Hubert and Beatrice Smith; a brother, Willie G. and Mildred Gould; sisters, Sarah Hodo, and Florine Hamilton; sisters-in-law, Ruby Lee Newson, and Minnie B. Gould; 29 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
