Richard Harley LongRichard Harley Long, 81, Newnan, died Feb. 28, 2008. He was born Oct. 20, 1926 in Coweta County to the late Richard and May Cavender Long. He was retired from the Coweta County School system where he had been in the facilities maintenance department. Services were at the Newnan First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Med Roach officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan. Joseph Nathaniel Wall Sr.Joseph Nathaniel Wall Sr., 82, Ellenwood, died March 4, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Wheeler Wall. He was a veteran of World War ll. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with Pastor Johnny Newell and Dave Piper officiating. Survivors include sons, Joseph and Naomi Wall Jr., Senoia, and Jeryl and Janet Wall, Lithonia; a daughter, Shirley and Bob Deaton, Hampton; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Mary Katherine Ballard GardnerMary Katherine Ballard Gardner, 97, Blairsville, died Feb. 27, 2008. She was born Oct. 21, 1910 in Fulton County. She became a housewife at an early age. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar W. Gardner, and her oldest son, Edward, who was killed in 1952. She was the granddaughter of a Baptist minister and the daughter of a deacon, all from the Orchard Knob Baptist Church in south Atlanta. She was a member of Fayetteville First Baptist Church when she lived in Fayetteville with a daughter, Carolyn Brand Jackson. She and her husband traveled around the world and served two years as lay missionaries in Japan. She wrote and published her autobiography, "Love Always Finds A Way" in 1997. Paul C. Oddo Sr.Paul C. Oddo Sr., 93, Fayetteville, died March 1, 2008. He was a veteran of World War ll, having served as a senior lieutenant in the United States Navy in the Atlantic Theater. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh N. and Gladys Shorey Spohn. Kathleen DearthKathleen Dearth, 86, Fayetteville, died Feb. 14, 2008. A native of Ashland, Ky., she loved westerns, owls, playing bingo, and doting on her great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at a later date at the Rebecca Lakes community clubhouse, with the Rev. Alan Wakeman officiating. Survivors include her children, Fred and Pat Heacock, Fayetteville, and Bob and Mei Lien Dearth, Hoschton, Ga.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jack Dunn, Lexington, Ky. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lucretia Klar, and a brother, Thomas Klar. He was a graduate of Ohio State University, Columbus, and received his Law Degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a retired major in the United States Army with 20 years of service. Eighteen of those years he was a Judge Advocate General attorney. He was a 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus and was a Past Grand Knight. Carolyn M. StanleyCarolyn M. Stanley, 72, Fayetteville, died Feb. 15, 2008. She worked as a Deputy Clerk for the Fulton County Superior Court and retired from the DeKalb County school system in 2000. She was a volunteer for Piedmont Fayette Hospital for six years. Memorial services were at the First Christian Church, Decatur. Edna C. RosserEdna C. Rosser, Fayetteville, died Feb. 17, 2008. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Bessie Berryhill, a brother, Frank Berryhill, and sisters, Elsie Korban, and Ruby Berryhill. Services were at Oak Park Church, Jonesboro with the Rev. David T. Scott officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include a son, Charles A. Brinker, Hope, Idaho, died Feb. 20, 2008. She was a member of Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, Peachtree City. She was a registered nurse having graduated from Wayne State University School of Nursing. She had additional training as a psychiatric nurse from Forrest Hospital in Des Plaines, Ill. Later she was a home health administrator at Lee Memorial Hospital, Ft. Myers, Fla., retiring at age 72. Opal A. HarrisonOpal A. Harrison, 87, Fayetteville, died Feb. 20, 2008. Hellice J. ClarkHellice J. Clark, 96, Mobile, Ala., formerly of Fayetteville and Atlanta, died Feb. 22, 2008. She was born Feb. 12, 1912 in Vilonia, Ark., one of 10 children. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Horace Clark, to whom she was married for 54 years. She attended Arkansas State Teacher's College and as a young woman worked for Arkansas Power Company. After moving to Atlanta she worked for CARE and later The Georgia Association of Federated Women's Clubs where she received many honors. She was loved and admired by those who knew her for her keen sense of humor, intellect and gracious personality. Graveside services were at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta.
