Howard "Buddy" Henry Markley, 78, Fayetteville, died May 15, 2008. He was retired with 32 years of service as a lead mechanic with Eastern Air Lines.

Cecil W. Fly Sr., 90, Fayetteville, died May 4, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia B. Edwards Fly, parents, Ezra and Alice Long Fly, three brothers, and one sister.

Bessie Mae Riley, 90, Ridgeland, S.C., died May 3, 2008. She was born Jan. 31, 1918 in Atlanta, daughter of Will and Dora Lee Keys Collins.

Ward Floyd

Ward Floyd, 79, Fayetteville, died May 4, 2008. He was born June 30, 1928 in Lake Charles, La. He was a veteran of the United States Navy in World War II and was retired from the Naval Oceanic Systems Center, San Diego, Calif.

Gary Lee Brown

Gary Lee Brown, 53, Luthersville, died April 30, 2008. He was born Oct. 2, 1954 one of seven children. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Moye Brown. He was a gregarious man, fun loving and tender hearted. He had a streak of the mischievous and loved playing a trick on someone. He loved the outdoors whether it involved his profession as a contractor, panning for gold or searching for prized arrowheads. Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Melanie Stanley-Sulen and the Rev. Richard Campbell officiating. Interment was at the Luthersville Cemetery.

Howard Lamar Turner

Howard Lamar Turner, 88, Senoia, died May 1,2008. He was preceded in death by son, Jimmy Avery, and sisters, Ruby Etheridge, and Kathleen Baker. He was veteran of the United States Army in World War II and was in the Philippines and Okinawa campaigns. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with interment at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

Peter John Lohmann

Peter John Lohmann, 63, Peachtree City, died May 1, 2008 from congestive heart failure. He was born Jan. 30, 1945 in New York City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Margaret Reinke Lohmann, and a brother, Walter Jaros. He was graduated from Westwood High School, Westwood, N. J., and from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He eared his Master's degree from the University of Louisville, Louisville, Ky. He was Director of Human Resources for Playtex Corporation, where he was employed for 25 years. He was a faithful fan of the Tennessee Vols and always enjoyed a rousing round of "Rocky Top." Memorial services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel.

K. M. "Bud" Peters

K. M. "Bud" Peters, 82, Newnan, died May 2, 2008. He was born March 19, 1926 in Columbus, Ga. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Hardy and Mabel Smith Peters. He served in the United States Navy in World War II. He was a Mason for over 50 years. He was associated with Georgia Power for over 60 years. Graveside services were at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan, with the Rev. Dr. Bob Martin officiating. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Barbara Trapp Peters, Newnan; and a daughter, Denise Peters Bray, Newnan. Memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society, 135 Bradford, Ste. Lucille Ball Smith Williams

Lucille Ball Smith Williams, 91, Newnan, died April 5, 2008. She was born May 13, 1916 in Coweta County. She was preceded in death by her husband Wade Smith Sr., longtime companion, Dennis Williams Sr., her parents, George and Mandy Ball, daughters, Letrice Smith, Sarah Bryant, and Lizzie McCrary, seven brothers, and five sisters.

Mildred Callaway

Mildred Callaway, 73, Franklin, died April 8, 2008. She was born Sept. 22, 1930 in Heard County, the sixth oldest child. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam Ben and Salley Kate Daniel, her husband, Eddie Callaway, whom she married July 23, 1948, one child at birth, Eddie Roy Callaway, brothers, Quincy Lee Daniel, the Rev. Clinton Daniel, Shelton Daniel, James Daniel, Alford Daniel, and a sister, Ora Lee Hodges. She had worked at The Bibb Company for 22 years before retiring. She was a Free and Accepted Eastern Star, serving as Matron. She joined the Heard Wesley Church at an early age.

Cecelia H. Harris

Cecelia H. Harris, 87. Newnan, died April 9, 2008. She was born Oct. 15, 1920 in Turin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bud Berry and Fannie Lou Hill, her husband, Willie Harris, whom she married in 1944, a brother, Grant Hill, a grandson, Steve D. Hines, and step-mother, Idella Strickland Hill. She joined the China Grove Baptist Church at an early age, and then the Zion Hill Baptist Church.

James Arnold

James Arnold, Decatur, formerly of Newnan, died April 12, 2008. He was born Oct. 16, 1916 in Newnan. He was preceded in death by his a daughter, Annie Zackery, five siblings, and a grandson, James Arthur Turner. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon First Baptist Church. He had served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1949. He received the American Campaign Medal and the Victory Medal in World War II. He was employed as an orderly at Coweta General Hospital.

Florence Scott

Florence Scott, 97, Newnan, died April 16, 2008. She was born April 6, 1911 in Moreland. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman and Betty Bailey, her husband of 59 years, Tom Scott, children, Eugene Scott and Georgia M. Cox, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, four sons-in-law, and 14 siblings. She joined the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church at an early age and served on the Nurse's Guild and Usher Board for many years. She was an active member until her health declined. She was a true fashion icon with exquisite taste and adored the color red.

Tommie Villarreal Ruiz, 87, Fayetteville, died April 24, 2008. She was born Aug. 20, 1920 in San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by son, William Joseph Ruiz.

Davis Irvin "D. I." Carter

Davis Irvin "D. I." Carter, 86, Fayetteville, died April 16, 2008. He was born April 15, 1922, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William O. Carter. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Blanche Trivette Carter, and grandsons, Matthew Stuart Carter and Clark Howell McElroy III. He had served in the United States Navy in World War II and the Korean War. He was retired from General Motors and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was also a 50-year Master Mason. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with Pastor Philip Bevel and Pastor Dannie Hix officiating. A Masonic graveside service was at Forest Hill Memorial Gardens, Forest Park, Ga.

Lucile Davis McKoy

Lucile Davis McKoy, 86, Newnan, died April 16,2008. She was born March 25, 1922, the youngest of five children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lee and Ruth Pritchett Davis, four siblings, and her husband, Luther Fred McKoy Sr., who died in 1976. She had worked with the postal service, and had owned her own restaurant at the Heart of Newnan Motel in downtown Newnan. It is now the site of the Newnan City Hall. She had also worked for a friend at his restaurant, Cannon's, which was a popular gathering place on Greenville Street. She was a member of Newnan First Baptist Church.

Ralph Edward Jackson

Ralph Edward Jackson, 88, Newnan, died April 17,2008. He was born Oct. 28, 1919 in the St. Charles community. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Ishmael and Myrtle Kate Brock Jackson, and siblings, Leroy Jackson, Doris Head, and Frances Reid. He was retired from Sewell Plastics in Atlanta. He enjoyed traveling with family members who operated Collins Transport and Courier Service and he and his wife were always ready to go.
