Davis Irvin "D.I." Carter, 86, Fayetteville, died April 16, 2008. He was born April 15, 1922, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William O. Carter. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Blanche Trivette Carter, and grandsons, Matthew Stuart Carter and Clark Howell McElroy III. He had served in the United States Navy in World War II and the Korean War. He was retired from General Motors and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was also a 50-year Master Mason. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with Pastor Philip Bevel and Pastor Dannie Hix officiating. A Masonic graveside service was at Forest Hill Memorial Gardens, Forest Park, Ga. Survivors include sons Billy Carter, Virginia Beach, Va., and Tommy and Patsy Carter, Stockbridge; a daughter, Pat and Howell McElroy, Fayetteville; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Charlie and Louise Carter, Lynn Haven, Fla., and Jack and Darlene Carter, Loganville; sisters, Doris and Dave Hirsch, Senoia, Barbara and Joe Sprayberry, Lithonia, Mary Elizabeth Gower, Buford, and Grace and Alvin Wallace, McDonough; a brother-in-law, Dexter and Wlllaree Trivette, Sugar Grove, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Orbie and Linville Ward, Boone, N.C., and Lennis and Allen Snyder, Mountain City, Tenn. The family extends a special thanks to Barbara, Twiggy, and Cindy, and the Hospice Advantage for their assistance during the past weeks. Carl J.
