She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil L. Johnson, whom she married on Jan. 31, 1968, and a daughter, Conquista Montray Johnson. She attended Central High School, Newnan, and Carroll Technical School where she received her Certified Nursing Assistant certification. Mildred H. MasonMildred H. Mason, 98, Palmetto, formerly of Long Beach, Miss., died March 15, 2008. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Effie Pepper Hollingsworth, and her husband, Lloyd Coats. She was born in Athens, Ala. and was a retired bookkeeper for several organizations. She was a member of the Newnan Church of Christ. She was an avid needle pointer and doll collector. James G. HarperJames G. Harper, 94, Fayetteville, died March 16, 2008. He was born Feb. 15, 1914 in Fayette County, son of Sylvester Quigg and Georgia Hitchcock Harper. Arthur Lee StokesArthur Lee Stokes, Fayetteville, died March 15, 2008. He was born March 19, 1933. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma C. Jodoin Tarnowski, a grandchild, Jay Tufts, and his parents. Betty Whaley BagwellBetty Whaley Bagwell died March 6, 2008. She was born April 1, 1927 in Bibb County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil Franklin and Mabel Thrailkill Whaley. Lucrete Stephens "Lou" BonnerLucrete Stephens "Lou" Bonner, Grantville, died Feb. 18, 2008. She was April 25, 1929, one of 15 children born to the late George Washington and Henrietta Warren Stephens, in Franklin. She was also preceded in death by eight of her siblings. She was educated in the Heard County School System at the Mary Johnson School. She married Alvin Bonner Sr. Her early jobs were menial, but she was able to support not only her family, but her sister's as well. Her love of God, dogged determinations and work ethic landed her more satisfying work in later years. She had worked as a quality control inspector for the James River Corporation. She joined Heard Bethel Baptist Church at an early age, and upon moving to Newnan, joined Zion Hill Baptist Church. She was a faithful usher until her health prevented her from serving, but she remained a member of the Senior Mission until her death. She had opened her home and heart to foster children. Winnifred "Wendy" Rowena CarterWinnifred "Wendy" Rowena Carter, Newnan, died Feb. 27, 2008. She was born Aug. 3, 1960. She joined the Newnan Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age, and later joined the St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church in Fairburn. Services were at Newnan Chapel United Methodist Church. Survivors include daughters, Lauren Michelle Carter and Ryan Elizabeth Carter; parents, Millard and Connie Partridge; a brother, Andrew and Keiko Partridge; sisters, Sandra P. Tutt and Gregory and Tammy Render; eight nephews; and two nieces. Lee A. Jackson, NewnanLee A. Jackson, Newnan, died Feb. 28, 2008. He was born Aril 16, 1922 in Goodwater, Ala., to the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Jackson. He was retired from the United States Army with 20 years of service. He had worked for nine years with the AAFES, and 15 years with the Civil Service. He joined The Seventh Day Adventist Church in 1972 and served as the Head Deacon for 20 years. Services were at the Roscoe Jenkins chapel. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Rosa Woodruff Jackson, Newnan; a son, Lee Andrew Jackson Jr., Sherman Oaks, Calif.; and sisters, Artwilton Shipp, Birmingham, Ala., and James and Esther Rabb, Los Angeles, Calif. Kathleen Jane D'AntoniKathleen Jane D'Antoni, 78, Fairburn, died March 3, 2008. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Julia Kelly, her husband, Joseph D'Antoni, and a sister, Mary Robertson. Memorial services were at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Peachtree City. Survivors include Mike and Rhonda D'Antoni, Kathleen and David Wickham; and grandchildren, Matthew D'Antoni, Rachael D'Antoni, and Jim D'Antoni. Mary Ethel Stargell BridgesMary Ethel Stargell Bridges, 93, Senoia, died March 2, 2008. She was born Nov. 27, 1914 to the late Joiner and Lillie Jane Stargell. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Jessie Bridges, and children, Jessie Bridges jr., Deborah Bridges, Mary Lizzie Wilkins, Woodrow Smith, Jessie Roger Smith, and Harold Bridges. Norma Lee CliftonNorma Lee Clifton, 74, Fayette County, died March 7, 2008. She was a member of Fayette Presbyterian Church where she was the first woman elder, and was also a member of the Presbytery. Gregory W. CrockerGregory W. Crocker, 57, Fayetteville, died March 6, 2008. He was born in Spartanburg, S. C. He was preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice Garrett Crocker. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with interment at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include a son, Tommie and Theresa Carr, Senoia; daughters, Sherri J. Wehner, LaGrange, Connie D. and Charles Sanders, Moreland, Patti D. Adams, Newnan, and Terri L. and Phil Shampine, Corning, N. Y.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. |
