Howell Alonzo “H. A.” and “Pawpaw” Ray Jr., 75, Fayetteville, formerly of Hapeville, died Feb. 11, 2008. He was born in Muscadine, Ala., on Aug. 27, 1932, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Howell Ray Sr. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki L. Bahr, who died Sept. 15, 2007. He served four years in the United States Army in the 101st “Screaming Eagles” Airborne Unit. He enjoyed a successful career beginning in 1959 at Southern Airways, where he began as a stock clerk. In 1994 he retired as Director of Shops for Northwest Airlines in Atlanta. He was known and loved for his sense of humor and the kindness and respect which he showed for those who knew him. Services will be Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at 2 p.m., at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with Pastor Doug Burrell officiting. Interment will be at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Helen Ray; a daughter, Judy and Mike Williams; a brother, Jason and Jessica Bahr; sisters, Jean Dexter, Luci Gallichio, and Anne Millians; grandson, Jason and Jessica Bahr; a great-grandson, Cashen; granddaughters, Sepehanie Williams, and Malory Williams; and beloved cats, Wendy and Sassy. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.
