Lewis signs with Troy StateBrett Lewis, a senior at Landmark Christian School, has signed a scholarship to run track for Troy State University. Lewis, who came to Landmark in the 10th grade, has been a member of both the cross country and track teams for the past three years, lettering on both teams all three years. Three boys teams survive in first round of playoffsThe state soccer playoffs began for the varsity boys teams on Wednesday night and the results were good for some and devastating for others. On the winning side were Starr’s Mill, McIntosh and Whitewater, while East Coweta, Fayette County and Northgate lost. The East Coweta girls also opened the state playoffs on Wednesday and won. Twelve local girls going to AAAA state meetCreekside, McIntosh, Northgate, Sandy Creek and Whitewater competed in the AAAA track meet and though none of those teams won the region, 12 girls did finish within the top two in the rie event and qualified for the state meet. Starr's Mill teams and Lady chiefs win region tennis titlesAfter a long day of tennis at Woodward the McIntosh girl’s team beat Chapel Hill and Woodward to become the 4AAAA regional champs for the 12th year in a row. Lady Chiefs close out lacrosse season with winThe McIntosh Lady Chiefs finished their second season on a three game winning streak. On Wednesday, they traveled to Rockdale and won handily, 17-11. Strong performances were turned in by sophomoresTaylor Lugash with 5 goals and 3 assists, and Kelly Polo with 4 goals and 1assist. Senior Dani Maskery had 3 goals and 1 assist, and junior Brit LaPalm scored 2 goals and 1 assist. The offensive barrage was rounded out by scoring from sophomores Katie Dew, Christen Downing, and freshman Elizabeth Langley, and an assist from sophomore Abby Biles. Defensively, the Lady Chiefs had another strong game from junior Kristen Lein, senior Laurel Briglevich, Downing, and freshman Ava Steinbrenner, with junior Lauren Schindler stopping 7 shots on goal. Quest for a soccer titleThe state soccer playoffs start today and while some local teams, like the region champion Whitewater and Starr’s Mill boys and McIntosh and Starr’s Mill girls open with home games, the rest of the locals in the playoffs are on the road. Baseball teams hit final stretch of season, shoot for winsThere isn’t much left to the regular season for high school baseball and many local teams are desperately seeking region wins. Starr's Mill girls win region track titleThe results from the girls region 4-AAAAA meet are in and the Starr’s Mill girls are region champions, but Fayette County also performed well in the meet. Chiefs top Panthers in physical final gameThe McIntosh boys lacrosse team met the Starr’s Mill team in Brooks on Friday night for the final game of the regular season. The Chiefs won 14-2 against a very physical Panther team. Gym South men do well at regional meetThe Gym South Men’s Gymnastics Team recently had 14 athletes ages 8 to 18 compete in the 2006 Men’s Regional Gymnastic Chamionships in Charleston, South Carolina. Region champs, old and newIt was the same old story for the McIntosh Lady Chiefs soccer team, even if they picked up more losses this season than in the past. The McIntosh girls faced Woodward Academy in the region finals on Friday night and won 2-1, giving the Lady Chiefs another region crown and another top seeding heading into the AAAA state playoffs. Several local teams begin second pass through region with winsThe McIntosh Chiefs varsity baseball team picked up a much needed region win Wednesday night by defeating Sandy Creek 9-7. Brendan Hall got the win, pitching five and one-thirds of an inning and striking out nine batters. Hall also aided his cause by hitting a two run home run in the first inning. Lady Chiefs and Wildcats play for region soccer titles FridayThe region 4-AAAA playoffs continued on Wednesday night and the results were mixed; split right down the middle for the boys and girls teams at McIntosh and Whitewater. McIntosh and Starr's Mill run at McEachern InvitationalMcIntosh and Starr’s Mill’s boys and girls track teams ran in the McEachern Invitational on Saturday. The Lady Panthers placed fifth overall and the Lady Chiefs placed eighth, while the Starr’s Mill boys finished in fifth place and the McIntosh boys placed 18th. A number of athletes representing those two schools placed in the top 10 in their respective events. They were: McIntosh boys lacrosse wins fourth in a row, girls beat ColumbusFollowing a victory against Pope (12-3) last week, the McIntosh boys lacrosse team recorded two strong road victories against Sprayberry (18-5) and Kell (11-9). The McIntosh and Whitewater varsity boys and girls soccer teams began the region playoffs on Monday evening, knowing that with a win, they would make the Class AAAA state tournament.
Tigers beat Wolverines with walk-off blast
Last Wednesday, the Fayette County Tigers lost to Starr’s Mill 13-3. On Friday, they fell behind Union Grove 8-3 but came back to win 10-8. Kevin Finn, who hit a two run blast against the Panthers on Wednesday, hit a shot that traveled over 400 feet on Friday. That wasn’t the biggest hit of the game though. Matt Burns hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Tigers a huge win over a tough region foe. John Lees was the winning pitcher and Josh Brock hit a RBI double in the game.
Lightning hires new DOCFC Lightning Soccer Club recently announced that Bob Moullin has been hired as the Director of Coaching. Moullin brings an impressive resume with him including a position as a US National Instructional Staff Coach, a Georgia State Staff Coach, and Head Coach of USSF Region III Under 14 Team. He was the head mens' soccer coach at Flagler College in Florida for 14 years as well as the head mens' soccer coach at Jacksonville University for three years. He was a State Staff coach in Florida from 1982 until 2005 and the Assistant Head Coach for the United States National Under 17 Team from 1989 until 1996. Chili Dogs win Super NIT
The 11 year old Home Plate Chili Dogs won the championship at last weekends Super NIT tournament held in Peachtree City.
Region 4-AAAA playoffs start tonightWin and you're in. That's the situation the McIntosh boys and girls and the Whitewater boys and girls varsity soccer teams find themselves in. If they win their first round region playoff game they will be guaranteed one of the four spots going to the Class AAAA state tournament. Whitewater boys host first round region playoff gameThe Whitewater Wildcats varsity soccer team (9-4) is ranked second in the state in Class AAAA and on Monday, Apr. 17 at 7 p.m. they will host the Douglas County Tigers in the region 4-AAAA playoffs. Most of the local baseball teams had a good week this week, picking up wins against region foes.
Regular season winding down, playoffs are approaching
The high school soccer season is entering the final stretch and once again there a plethora of area teams with high hopes for the playoffs.
The 13u PTB Georgia Seminoles win the Georgia USSSA Super NIT
The PTB Georgia Seminoles won this past weekend’s USSSA Super NIT and, by doing so, qualified for the USSSA Elite 24 World Series . The USSSA Elite 24 World Series will be held at Disney’s Wide World Of Sports in Orlando, Fla., the first week in August.
McIntosh does well in meet at WestminsterMcIntosh traveled to Westminster to compete in a track meet against Westminster, Chamblee, Collins Hill and Galloway. The Lady Chiefs placed second behind Collins Hill, while the boys placed third behind Collins Hill and Westminster. |
