There isn’t much left to the regular season for high school baseball and many local teams are desperately seeking region wins. Fayette County (13-8) lost to East Coweta (11-4) last Friday. The loss puts the Tigers region record at 5-3 with four games remaining, currently good enough for third place. They will play at home against Newnan today at 5:30 and will play at Starr’s Mill Friday at 7 p.m. Their final two games will be Monday at Union Grove and Wednesday at home against Mundy’s Mill. Starr’s Mill (21-0) is a perfect 8-0 in the region. They faced Lovejoy on the road on Monday and won 16-3. Bryan Daniels got the win and Scooter Houston had a great day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with four runs driven in, while Jimmy Tanner went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and T.J. Stillwell went 2-for-3 with two run scored. Whitewater (13-7) had a battle with McIntosh (9-12) last Friday and won 11-9. The Chiefs struck first with Johnny Peadon driving in two runs and Cameron Wallis adding one more in the first. They would score three more in the second but Whitewater would answer in the third with four runs of their own, two of which were driven in by Miles Head, while the other two were driven in by Jonathan Sholar and Ryan Gilreath. McIntosh’s Brendan Hall hit one of his two home runs in the bottom of the third and Jake Tanis drove in a run in the fourth but the Wildcats would have an offensive explosion over the next three innings. Sholar hit a home run and was followed by Heine Rivera, who hit a two run blast in the fifth. In the sixth, Ryan Johnson hit a two run home run and Jonathan Jaurigue hit a two run home run in the seventh to give Whitewater an 11-8 lead. Hall would hit his second home run in the bottom of the inning but Whitewater would not allow another run. Whitewater followed the win up with a 14-4 victory over Creekside on Monday, while the Chiefs lost to Woodward Academy 8-6. Whitewater is 6-2 in the sub-region, which is tied for first with Northgate, while Sandy Creek is 5-3 and McIntosh is 2-6. Sandy Creek beat Northgate 4-3 in 11 innings on Monday with Jimmy Munson earning the win. Brent Brewer’s home run in the 11th inning gave the Patriots the go ahead run. Last Friday afternoon the Landmark Christian School varsity baseball team improved their record to 19-2, with a 7-2 victory over visiting Mt. Zion. Trey Strickland was the winning pitcher, by pitching seven innings of two hit baseball. At the plate Nathan Hunter had three hits and Miles King and Matt Moody had two hits apiece. Our Lady of Mercy (7-11) played at Eagle’s Landing Christian yesterday and will host Galloway on Friday before closing out the season at Landmark next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. login to post comments |
