Tigers beat Wolverines with walk-off blast

Last Wednesday, the Fayette County Tigers lost to Starr’s Mill 13-3. On Friday, they fell behind Union Grove 8-3 but came back to win 10-8. Kevin Finn, who hit a two run blast against the Panthers on Wednesday, hit a shot that traveled over 400 feet on Friday. That wasn’t the biggest hit of the game though. Matt Burns hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Tigers a huge win over a tough region foe. John Lees was the winning pitcher and Josh Brock hit a RBI double in the game.

Fayette County (11-7) will host Lovejoy today at 5:30 p.m.

Starr’s Mill (19-0) closed out their first pass through region play with an 11-1 win over Newnan. Brian Fletcher went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs driven in, while Scooter Houston went 2-for-4 and scored two runs. Joey Lewis hit a two run home run and Spencer Shelton picked up the win. The Panthers have out scored their region opponents 61-12 thus far this season.

They will play at Union Grove tonight. In their previous meting, the Panthers won 2-0.

In 4-AAAA action, Whitewater (11-6) defeated Chapel Hill on Monday 13-2. it was the fourth win in a row for the Wildcats. Joanthan Ashley was the winning pitcher. Picking up the big hits were Miles Head with a double and a home run, and Jonathan Sholar, Ryan Gilreath and Justin Carpenter. Coach Frank Dixon cited good defensive play and only making one error as the keys to the victory.

The Wildcats will play at Northgate today at 5 p.m.

Sandy Creek has lost two games in a row. The Patriots (13-5) fell to Alexander 10-4 on Friday and then lost to Villa Rica 8-7 on Monday. The losses snapped an eight game winning streak for Sandy Creek. They will face McIntosh on the road today at 5:30 p.m. The Chiefs (8-10) lost to Alexander 10-5 on Monday after picking up a 5-2 win over Douglas County on Friday. McIntosh gave up three home runs in the loss to Alexander. The Chiefs will host Whitewater on Friday at 7 p.m.

In region 5-A, Landmark Christian (16-2) defeated St. Francis 11-1 last Friday in six innings. Tommy Kinney got the win and Michael Leonard and Nathan Hunter each had three hits in the victory.

They hosted Mt. Paran at 5:30 p.m. yesterday after the paper went to press.

Our Lady of Mercy (7-11) lost to St. Francis 15-4 on Saturday. They took on Notre Dame High School in Chattanooga yesterday afternoon.
