The high school soccer season is entering the final stretch and once again there a plethora of area teams with high hopes for the playoffs.
Starr’s Mill’s boys and girls, ranked fifth and fourth in AAAAA respectively, have a few region games left and are in good shape to win the region yet again. The boys (10-3) picked up a 2-1 win over Milton Tuesday night, while the girls (9-2-1) won 5-0. They both played Lovejoy last night after the paper went to press and will host Fayette County next Friday in games that will determine the region titles. Fayette County’s boys and girls both picked up wins over Jonesboro on Tuesday. The boys (12-2-1) won 8-0 and the girls (10-4-1) won 1-0. They will host East Coweta tonight. In region 4-AAAA, the regular season of region games is over but the region tournament begins Monday. As of press time, the games were not set in stone but projections had the McIntosh boys (8-3-1), ranked fifth in AAAA, hosting Lithia Springs, while the girls (8-5-1), ranked fourth in AAAA, would host Douglas County. The Lady Chiefs tied Lovett 2-2 on Tuesday, while the boys defeated Upson Lee 3-0 on Wednesday. Whitewater’s girls (8-4-1), ranked fifth in AAAA, will likely face the loser of the Alexander/Chapel Hill game on the road, while Northgate’s girls (7-7) will face the winner of that game on the road. The Lady Wildcats bounced back from a 2-1 loss to Lassiter on Tuesday to defeat Upson Lee on Wednesday 8-0. The Whitewater boys (9-4), ranked second in AAAA, will most likely host Douglas County, while the Northgate boys (4-9-2) are expected to be on the road to take on Alexander. The Wildcats fell to Lassiter 5-0 and will play at Kell tonight. The Vikings closed out the regular season with a 2-1 win over Sandy Creek. Sandy Creek’s boys and girls both lost to Woodward Academy on Wednesday. The boys lost 9-0 and the girls lost 7-0. The Lady Patriots (3-9-2) will face Creekside on Tuesday and Lithia Springs on Wednesday in the loser’s bracket of the region tournament, while the boys (6-8) will face Creekside on the road on Tuesday and will host Villa Rica on Wednesday. login to post comments |
