Opening Day good to some local teamsThe Starr’s Mill Panthers opened the 2006 season with a win by defeating the Whitewater Wildcats 8-2. Andrew Robinson picked up the win for the Panthers while Whitewater pitcher Justin Carpenter was handed the loss. Ryan Haynie finished the game on the mound for the Panthers, while Jonah Jaurigue and Mike Johnson pitched after Carpenter for Whitewater. Each team had seven strikeouts but Whitewater pitching allowed nine walks and the team committed two very costly errors that extended some innings and led to Starr’s Mill runs. Six locals win gold in AAU Regionals
Oh Do Kwan Martial Arts in Fayetteville had six students win gold medals at the AAU Southeastern Regionals. These students have all qualified for the AAU Jr. Olympics, a national event in Knoxville, Tenn., on July 4.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes sponsored a 2006 Baseball Lead-Off Dinner for over 350 players, coaches, and volunteers to celebrate the 2006 high school baseball season, at Crossroad Church in Newnan.

The 2005-2006 basketball season for the Landmark Christian Lady War Eagles and the Sandy Creek Lady Patriots is over. Both teams were eliminated from the sweet 16 in their respective classifications on Thursday.

The Lady Vikings (1-1) after a 3-0 win over Carrollton and a 3-0 loss to Newnan, were also active on Thursday with a game at Central, Carrollton. For the third year in a row, St. Paul Lutheran School’s girls’ varsity basketball team clenched first place in the Private Athletic Conference (PAC).
Chiefettes Win State for Fourth Consecutive Year
For the fourth consecutive year, the McIntosh High School Varsity Chiefettes walked away from the Universal Dance Association’s (UDA) Georgia Championship as state champs in the high kick category. Making the day even more impressive, the team also won first place in the pom category. Two Chiefettes competed in the solo category with Senior Laurel Edge placing fourth and Junior Meghan Takacs receiving sixth place.

On Thursday, February 16th, the Yellow Jackets won the end of season tournament and claimed the Championship of the Peachtree City Youth Basketball Association 3rd-4th Grade Girls Division. The Yellow Jackets were down 10-8 in the 4th period of a six period game against a very determined Hawkeyes team.

Six local teams made the state basketball playoffs, three on the boys side and three on the girls side. When Saturday evening rolled around, only two teams were advancing to the sweet 16; Landmark Christian’s Lady War Eagles, coached by Jim Waller, and Waller’s former team, the Sandy Creek Lady Patriots, now coached by Tara Ware.
Season begun, teams stay busy over breakThe Fayette County boys are off to a good start this season, They are 3-0 after three games in the Lovejoy Tournament. The Tigers opened with a 1-0 win over Cross Keys and followed it up with a 15-0 win over Southside and a 3-0 win over Forsyth Central. Lightning team wins in Augusta

The Fayette County Thrashers wrestling team had five youth wrestlers qualify for Georgia Kids State in the younger age brackets.
