Season begun, teams stay busy over break

The Fayette County boys are off to a good start this season, They are 3-0 after three games in the Lovejoy Tournament. The Tigers opened with a 1-0 win over Cross Keys and followed it up with a 15-0 win over Southside and a 3-0 win over Forsyth Central.

The Lady Tigers are 2-1. They opened with a 5-0 win over Cross Keys and followed it up with a 3-1 win over Tucker before losing to East Coweta 7-0.

Their next game will be March 1 against Cross Keys. The girls will play at 5:30 p.m. and the boys will play at 7:30 p.m.

The Whitewater boys, ranked 10th in AAAA, are 2-0 so far this season. They defeated St. Pius 4-2 last Tuesday and defeated Centennial 1-0 on Friday. The girls, ranked fifth in AAAA, beat the third ranked St. Pius team 4-3 in penalty kicks and then tied Centennial 0-0 on Friday.

Whitewater’s boys will host Flowery Branch on Tuesday, Feb. 28, while the girls will play at Chapel Hill at 7 p.m.

Sandy Creek’s girls are 2-0 this season, after beating Landmark Christian 5-1 last Tuesday and then defeating Lithia Springs 6-1 on Thursday. The boys (0-2) fell to McIntosh 2-0 last Wednesday and lost to Lithia Springs 4-3 last Thursday. The boys will play in the LaGrange tournament this week, while the girls will host Stockbridge next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

McIntosh’s Lady Chiefs, ranked number one in AAAA, lost to Walton 3-1 last Wednesday. They will play Brookwood on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the Brookwood tournament on Thursday and will take on Duluth on Saturday at 11 a.m. The McIntosh boys. also ranked first in AAAA, are 2-0 after the win over Sandy Creek and a 15-0 win over Creekside. They will take on Brookwood tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.

Starr’s Mill’s boys, ranked fifth in AAAAA, are 1-0 after a 3-1 win over Pope. They took on fourth ranked Lassiter last night after the paper went to press and will play in the Brookwood tournament today (against South Forsyth) and Brookwood, ranked first in AAAAA, at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The Lady Panthers are 1-1, after losing to Harrison, ranked second in AAAAA, to start the season and defeating Chapel Hill 3-1 last week. They are currently ranked sixth in AAAAA and will play South Forsyth in the Brookwood tournament today at 7:30 p.m. and will take on Brookwood at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
