Local Special Olympians do well in winter gamesTue, 02/28/2006 - 3:48pm

Fayette County Special Olympics has been very busy since the beginning of the year. Everyone started training for various sports for the State Winter Games competition, last year.
On January 21, they traveled to Marietta for the competition. Here’s how everything turned out: Individual Basketball Skills – Scottie Moore – 3rd place; Kori Capers – 2nd place; Brandon Martin – 1st place; Ethan Harris – 1st place Floor Hockey Skills – Johnny Brown – 1st place; Suzanne Fields – 1st place; Phillip Evans – 1st place Rhythmic Gymnastics – Kimberly Ware – Ribbon: 1st place, Hoop – 2nd place, Floor – 2nd place, Ball – 3rd place, All-Around – 2nd place; Lani DeMello – Ribbon – 1st place, Hoop – 1st place, Floor – 1st place, Ball – 1st place, All-Around – 1st place Bowling – Amber Tino – 1st; Annetta Meneffee – 2nd; Elena Dukes – 2nd; Allison Romano – 3rd; Nicholas Sanchez – 1st; Bryon Bartley – 1st; Carl Bartley – 2nd; Neal Murdaugh – 1st; Alex Simmons – 1st. After dry-land training, with help from Peter Glenn of Vermont, five athletes and five coaches ventured up to Boone, North Carolina for the Southeastern Alpine Skiing competition on Feb. 5. This competition had competitors from Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, and South Carolina. After layering up in clothes, because it was so cold, everyone had a great time and competed extremely hard. Here’s how everything turned out for them. |
