Wildcats get two region wins, other locals pick up splitsThe Whitewater Wildcats defeated Creekside Friday night 7-6 but had to come from behind to do so. The Cats received great pitching from Tom Bohrer, Mike Johnson and Nick Nieves but the defense struggled giving up six unearned runs. Four and a half year old Jada Anderson surprised onlookers as she demonstrated form and required techniques earning her the honor of being the first 4 1/2 year old to receive her yellow belt in the 15 year history of Oh Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do Martial Arts School.
Gym South gymnasts go to Mardi GrasThe Gymnastics Academy of Atlanta hosted the Mardi Gras gymnastics meet recently at Life University. The Gym South girls team was represented by several levels. The youngest level, level 3, took first place with a team score of 108.85. The level 4 team finished in second place out of 9 teams with a team score of 111.025. The Starr’s Mill’s varsity girls lacrosse team faced area opponent Columbus last week and defeated them for the second time this season. The Lady Panthers won 10-4 getting goals from sophomore Sarah Risley (5), freshman Alix Stanley (3) and senior Jess Dupuy (2). Sophomore Lindsey Shirley and freshman Kendall Reeves joined Risley and Dupuy with assists on goals.
Several region 4-AAAA baseball teams pick up key region winsRain in the morning on Tuesday did not stop anybody from playing baseball in the afternoon and the results were good for Landmark Christian but not so good for Fayette County. Coweta teams pick up winsThe Northgate boys and girls found themselves on the losing side of 2-0 games with teams from Fayette County this week. The Lady Vikings (5-6) lost to the Lady Tigers of Fayette County High School (7-4) on Tuesday, while the boys team (2-6-2) fell to the Starr’s Mill Panthers (7-2) on Wednesday night. McIntosh freshmen making an impression
The McIntosh freshman singles players Marybeth Black, John Higgins and Austin Tilton have all made a strong start to the season. All have been playing tennis for many years putting in over 10 hours per week training and are experienced tournament players with state and sectional rankings.
PTB Vipers qualify for two big tournaments
The PTB Georgia Vipers are a competitive 11U team and are members of Peachtree City Travel Baseball. The boys began the season with a strong first place finish in the USSSA Directors Cup Challenge Series held in Morrow/Lake City with a record of 4-0 the week of March 1. This qualified the Vipers to participate in the Directors Cup Championship Series held in early May against some of the best 11U competitive baseball teams in Georgia.
Redbirds win hoops tournament
The Redbirds were Peachtree City’s sixth grade boys basketball tournament winners after a close and exciting finish in the final game.
Davis earns All American honors in track
Starr’s Mill junior Greg Davis recently competed at the National Scholastic Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Armory in New York City. Davis threw the 25 pound weight a distance of 66’7.75”, placing fourth out of 54 nationally ranked athletes and earning All-American honors.

The Fayette County Tigers (6-2) picked up their third win in a row last week with a 9-5 win over Jonesboro. The Tigers got home runs from David Buchanan and Matt Palmer and got an RBI from Jeremy Hyde. The winning pitcher for Fayette County was Kevin Finn. The Tigers faced Stockbridge on Monday and won 4-3, despite making five errors.

Those who placed in the top 10 in their events were: Lady Panthers get first ever win over McIntoshIt wasn’t the epic battle that many fans were hoping for. Both the Starr’s Mill (7-2) and McIntosh (6-3) varsity girls soccer teams had several key players out and the fans didn’t show up in droves, as they had in the past. That being said, the game was another fierce battle between two rivals and this year there would be no tie. Tigers top Northgate in tennisThe Fayette County boys tennis team got their second win of the season last week by handing Northgate a 3-2 loss. Winners for the boys were number two singles player, Saikat Karmaker , 8-5; number three singles player Joshua Williams, 8-4 and the number two doubles team of Rafiq Raziuddin and Jonathan Simmons, 8-3. The Under 12 Lightning White Girls team defeated SWISA ( Indiana) 4-1 in the 11 v 11 Championship game of the Vulcan Cup in Birmingham, Ala.

Big rivalry at McIntosh, huge region contests at Whitewater
Area soccer fans have been waiting for this night since last year. It is the annual Starr’s Mill - McIntosh varsity girls soccer game. Last year, the two teams battled to a 3-3 tie but both teams would rather have a clear winner this year.
Good play from local lacrosse teamsThe surprising varsity boy’s lacrosse team, playing their second overtime game in four days, came up short against a strong Northview High School squad, 10-9. The OT loss moves their overall record to 3 wins and 1 loss and a ranking in the top 16 varsity programs in Georgia. Panther golfers off to fast startThe Starr’s Mill High School golf team has kicked off their season by winning their first five matches. The Panthers have defeated Newnan, Fayette County, Northgate, McIntosh and Sandy Creek on their way to establishing themselves as one of the leaders in their region. The McIntosh High School swim team honored its outstanding athletes at its annual awards banquet in March. Senior Thomas Lucak and junior Nicole Roddenberry received the team’s High Points awards, and each also was given the Team Choice award, voted by the team members for the male and female swimmer most representative of the McIntosh team. The Most Valuable Swimmer title went to Roddenberry and senior Bryan Mitchell.
