• Peachtree City resident Amanda Pfannenstiel was a state champion in the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Competition in the 12 year old age division. She attends Rising Starr Middle School.

• Channing Welch, a senior in the Fayette County High School varsity basketball team, was named to the first team, Class AAAAA GACA 2005-2006 Coaches Choice All-State team.

Welch averaged 14.3 points, 3.2 assists, 12.1 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 1.6 blocks per game. He had a 64.6 shooting percentage for the season and was named to the all tournament team for the Morrow Thanksgiving tournament. He was also the MVP of the Henry County Classic.

Welch, signed an athletic scholarship to play football, for Furman University.
