The surprising varsity boy’s lacrosse team, playing their second overtime game in four days, came up short against a strong Northview High School squad, 10-9. The OT loss moves their overall record to 3 wins and 1 loss and a ranking in the top 16 varsity programs in Georgia. Previous to last Saturday’s loss the extremely young team started the season with three straight wins against Kennesaw Mountain 12-8, Woodstock 13-1, and a thrilling win over Blessed Trinity with the winning goal scored in Double Overtime by DJ Ward resulting in an 8-7 victory. This week the team faces tough challenges against Harrison and Roswell, both ranked in the top 12 of the state. Captain Sean Griffin and DJ Ward lead the team in scoring both averaging close to five points a game. Captain Patrick Schneider continues as one of the top face Off Players in the state while averaging over three points a game with additional scoring support coming from Garret Lee, Brian Huefner, Evan Meyers, Dan Christ and Andrew Huffman. In addition Midfielders Paul Beall and Joe Maskery have played extremely well. The defense gives up just six goals per game, anchored by the only returning starter, Captain Cameron Reno. Strong performances have been turned in by first year Goalie David Gottardi, and defensemen David Bexley, Nathan DeRosa, Andy Milani, Zane McCarthy, and Long Stick Midfielder Ed Jensen. The next McIntosh home game is Monday March 20 at Riley Field at 5:55 pm, against Alpharetta in conjunction with the Fayette County Lacrosse Association. Any youth player, both boys and girls will be admitted free of charge by wearing their youth league jersey to the game. On the girls side, the Starr’s Mill Lady Panthers stopped a three game losing streak and defeated McIntosh 6-4. The Starr’s Mill boys have gone 1-3 in March.
