McIntosh girls soccer - horton and quinn
Area soccer fans have been waiting for this night since last year. It is the annual Starr’s Mill - McIntosh varsity girls soccer game. Last year, the two teams battled to a 3-3 tie but both teams would rather have a clear winner this year.

The Starr’s Mill girls (5-2) defeated Whitewater 2-1 last week but lost to the third ranked Lassiter team 2-1 this week. Gina Goforth scored in both the Whitewater and lassiter games and has been a force on offense for Starr’s Mill. The Lady Panthers, ranked seventh in Class AAAAA, faced Mundy’s Mill yesterday after the paper went to press. The Lady Chiefs (6-2), winners of six in a row, most recently defeated Heritage, 8-0, Creekside, 15-0 and Fayette County 6-0. In those three games, Jessalyn Moore scored seven goals and added an assist, Brittany Schneider notched six goals and three assists, Caroline Austin scored five goals and added four assists and Kaelyn Horton scored three goals and added nine assists. McIntosh is ranked third in Class AAAA.

On the boys side, Starr’s Mill, ranked fourth in Class AAAAA (5-1) played Mundy’s Mill yesterday and will host Harrison at 5:30 p.m. today. The Panthers got a goal from Riley Phelps in their 1-0 win over Whitewater last Friday. The McIntosh Chiefs (4-2) have won two in a row since their 1-0 loss to Starr’s Mill. The Chiefs, ranked third in AAAA, will take on Lassiter after the girls game at 8 p.m. tonight.

Of course, if you don’t have an interest in McIntosh and Starr’s Mill, Whitewater’s boys and girls will host incredibly important region games tonight. Both teams will take on Woodward Academy and the winners of this game will have an inside track towards playing for a region title. The Lady Wildcats (5-1-1), ranked fifth in Class AAAA, will play the Lady War Eagles (5-0-1), ranked first in Class AAAA, at 6 p.m. The Whitewater boys (5-1), ranked fourth in Class AAAA, will play the War Eagles (4-1), ranked second in Class AAAA, at 8 p.m. The Whitewater boys and girls both handed Northgate 4-2 losses on Tuesday.

East Coweta’s boys and girls and Northgate’s boys and girls will play in the East Coweta tournament this weekend. The Northgate and East Coweta girls will meet at 8:15 p.m. tonight and both will close the tournament tomorrow. Northgate (4-4) will meet Harris County at 9 a.m. and the Lady Indians (9-1) will take on Mt. Zion at 1 p.m. The East Coweta boys (4-3) will face Northgate tonight and will play Mt. Zion at 3 p.m. tomorrow, while the Northgate boys (1-5) close out the tournament with a game against Harris County at 11 a.m.
