Panthers stay perfect with 8-7 win over Sandy CreekThu, 03/16/2006 - 2:01pm

Brian Fletcher is swinging a hot bat right now and his most recent blast couldn’t have come at a better time.
The Starr’s Mill Panthers (9-0) trailed the Sandy Creek Patriots (3-2) 5-4 going into the bottom of the fifth inning. After two Panthers got on base, Fletcher delivered a three run home run, his third in the last two games, to give Starr’s Mill the lead for good. The Panthers won 8-7 and stayed undefeated. On Monday, Starr’s Mill spanked Sprayberry 14-0. Fletcher hit two home runs, while Jimmy Tanner drove in three runs and Scooter Houston and Ryan Haynie each had two hits in the win. Bryan Daniels got the win against Sprayberry and Spencer Shelton picked up the win in relief against Sandy Creek. The Panthers will take on Marietta on the road tonight at 6 p.m. and will play at Griffin at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Sandy Creek will take on McIntosh at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Whitewater (2-4) got their second win in a row by handing Mundy’s Mill a 13-1 loss on Monday night. Tom Bohrer picked up the win and Jonathan Sholar and Jonah Jaurigue each had three hits in the win. Other big hitters in the win were Jonathan Ashley, Dusty Davis and Miles Head. McIntosh (3-2) took on Newnan last night after the paper went to press and will open region play on Monday with a 5:30 p.m game at Sandy Creek. Fayette County (5-2) has won three games in a row. After defeating the Chiefs last Friday, the Tigers handed Shaw a 14-3 loss on Monday and defeated Jonesboro 9-5 on Wednesday. They will host Stockbridge at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. East Coweta (5-3) has lost three games in a row and has been held scoreless since last week’s 3-2 win over Sandy Creek. The Indians lost to Northgate 8-0 last Friday, fell to Pike County on Monday and were edged out 1-0 by Sprayberry on Wednesday. They will host Troup tonight at 5:30 p.m. and will play White County at Southern Poly Tech at 4 p.m. on Monday. The Northgate Vikings (7-3) fell to Northside, Columbus 9-3 on Monday but defeated Alexander 6-5 in 11 innings on Wednesday. The Vikings will play at Creekside at 5 p.m. next Wednesday. Landmark Christian (8-1) hosted Excel Christian yesterday after the paper went to press and will play at Whitefield Academy today at 4 p.m. Our Lady of Mercy (2-2), which lost two games to Athens Christian on Saturday, will host Mt. Zion, Carroll in their region opener at 4 p.m. today. They will take on Aquinas at 11 a.m. tomorrow and will host Mt. Paran at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. In the Athens Christian games, the Bobcats got RBIs from Doc Lee and got good hitting and smart play from Jarrod Boccella, Dakota Socha, Brett Thomas, William Pearl and Owen Anderson. login to post comments |
