Teams pick up wins before wet beginning to weekTue, 03/21/2006 - 1:24pm

The Fayette County Tigers (6-2) picked up their third win in a row last week with a 9-5 win over Jonesboro. The Tigers got home runs from David Buchanan and Matt Palmer and got an RBI from Jeremy Hyde. The winning pitcher for Fayette County was Kevin Finn. The Tigers faced Stockbridge on Monday and won 4-3, despite making five errors.
Fayette County was scheduled to play at East Paulding yesterday after the paper went to press. Starr’s Mill (11-0) got a 14-4 win over Walton last Thursday and then handed Marietta a 7-1 loss on Friday. In Thursday’s game, Luke Harp went 3-for-3 with three doubles and three RBIs, while Ben Baker and Scooter Houston each had three hits in the win as well. Andrew Robinson was the winning pitcher for the Panthers. Against Marietta, Lee Jones got the win, while Trent Freeman, Spencer Shelton and Houston all got two hits. The Panthers game against Griffin on Monday was cancelled. They will play at Jonesboro today at 5:30 p.m. The McIntosh Chiefs (3-4) are on a four game losing streak. They fell to Newnan 13-0 in five innings last Thursday and lost to Sandy Creek on Monday 7-1. Sandy Creek (4-2) trailed the Chiefs heading into the bottom of the fourth inning but got five runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth. The game was called due to rain in the sixth inning. The Patriots got two hits a piece from Brent Brewer and Braxton Lane and Tyler Betsill was the winning pitcher. Sandy creek will play at Woodward Academy today at 5:30 p.m., while McIntosh will play at Whitewater at 6 p.m. Whitewater’s game against Northgate, scheduled for Monday was postponed until Tuesday and then cancelled. Landmark Christian (10-1) bounced back from their loss to Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy with an 11-1 win over Excel Christian on Thursday followed by a 5-2 win over Whitefield Academy. Brad Miller got the win against Excel, giving up two hits and striking out five batters, while Trey Strickland pitched a complete game against Whitefield for the win. In the Excel game, Matt Moody went 2-for-2 and Michael Leonard went 2-for-3. Strickland was 3-for-4 in the Whitefield game and he rached base a fourth time on an error. Coach Todd Eubanks gave Luke Griffith credit for a good week. Griffith hit. 475 with three doubles for the week. Moody was the Player of the Week for Landmark, throwing a no-hitter against Excel last Monday and hitting .450 for the week. Landmark was scheduled to face St. Francis yesterday after the paper went to press. Our Lady of Mercy (3-3) shut down the Mt. Zion Eagles 10-0 on Friday to open their region play. Jarrod Boccella threw his second career shutout by striking out nine and allowing only four baserunners over five innings. The Bobcats were led by the hitting of Brett Thomas, who had two hits and four RBIs and Owen Anderson’s two RBIs. Mercy’s record stands at 3-3. Region play continues this week with a home game on Tuesday vs. Mt. Paran, and a road game on Friday vs. St. Francis. login to post comments |
