Yellow Jackets win division championship

On Thursday, February 16th, the Yellow Jackets won the end of season tournament and claimed the Championship of the Peachtree City Youth Basketball Association 3rd-4th Grade Girls Division. The Yellow Jackets were down 10-8 in the 4th period of a six period game against a very determined Hawkeyes team.

Jenna Hughes tied the game with a soft shot off the glass. The momentum shifted permanently to the side of the Jackets when, with two seconds left in the fifth period, Katie Buck launched a shot from just inside the three point line that hit nothing but net, giving the Jackets a 12-10 lead going into the final period.

The Yellow Jackets went on to win 15-10 behind the smothering defense of Erin Egoroff, Sydney Jarmon, and Brooke Crosby. The scoring was very balanced as five different players scored in the game. The Hawkeyes scoring was led by center Diana Enriquez and Alex Huber, each scoring four points.The Hawkeyes ended the season at 10-2.
The Yellow Jackets were the regular season champions as well with a 9-0 record, and ended the season undefeated at 12-0.

During the regular season, center Sydney Jarmon led the league in scoring averaging 9.2 points per game. Point guard Paige Murin scored four critical points during the first tournament game and led the team in assists. Forwards Olivia Krug and Ella Sivertsen were also instrumental in the team’s success with their rebounding and defense.
