Hyde's dream to play for Braves comes true

Lee Hyde, a Fayette County graduate currently pitching for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, knew that several major league teams were interested in drafting him, one of which was his beloved hometown Atlanta Braves. Hyde could do nothing though in the weeks and days leading up to the Major League Baseball draft but be himself and wait and see who would choose him come draft day.

While this week marks a big week in my household because we are celebrating two birthdays, it is also huge as Friday marks the beginning of the 2006 World Cup. I know there are a lot of soccer fans in this area but I also know that a lot of people around here don’t “get it” and that the nation as a whole may be collectively yawning about this event. Whatever side of the fence you are on about the World Cup, I urge everyone to support the United States squad and give this amazing athletic experience a chance.

Peachtree City’s 12U Girls Fastpitch team, The Galaxy, has finished the spring season with an undefeated record and a clean sweep of the End of Season tournament. This wonderful group of young ladies came together in the cold of January and ended the season in the warmth of spring as champions of Fayette County. Congratulations to these young players and coaching staff.
