Navy gymnastics junior Sean Blackman (Fayetteville, Ga.) has been named a 2006 ESPN The Magazine Men's At-Large Academic All-American Third-Team selection.

Majoring in Aerospace Engineering, Blackman owns a 3.89 cumulative grade point average over his first-three years at the Academy. Blackman earned a 4.0 grade point average this spring and has been named to the Superintendent's List and Commandant's List in each of his first-six semesters.

Blackman's cumulative grade point average ranks among the top-five percent of his class and he is among the top-one percent of his class in Military Order of Merit.

Athletically, Blackman primarily competed on the still rings this past winter and ranked as high as fourth in the country in the event. The gymnast landed in 13th place in the final NCAA rankings and averaged a 9.13 mark on the still rings in his 14 competitions this season, during which he scored at least a 9.0 in 12 of those meets.

For the second consecutive season, Blackman earned USAG Collegiate Championship All-America honors on the still rings with a second-place 9.0-point showing. Blackman also competed at the NCAA Qualifying Meet and placed second in the ECAC Championship on the still rings with a 9.2 score from the judges. His best performance on the rings came at the All-Academy Championship, where he won the event with a 9.45-point effort.

The Midshipmen posted a 13-6 record and finished second in the ECAC Championship, their best performance in the conference championship since 1997.
