• Penn State women’s tennis player Jenny Shular (Peachtree City, Ga.) has been selected by the NCAA as one of 352 student-athletes to attend the 10th annual NCAA Leadership Conference, slated for May 28-June 1 in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Those selected to attend the NCAA Leadership Conference have been tabbed as current or future leaders on their college campuses. Shular was one of 352 student-athletes selected from a total of 1,319 nomination forms that were submitted by college and university officials who have NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills programs on their campuses.

Shular finished her sophomore campaign with the Penn State women’s tennis team with an overall singles record of 13-12 in 2005-06. She recorded a 9-11 dual-match mark, and went 5-8 in doubles action on the season. The Georgia native picked up an important win at No. 4 singles at the 2006 Big Ten Championships, as the Nittany Lions rallied to defeat Minnesota in first-round action by a score of 4-3.

• Ben Condon, a junior shortstop and pitcher for the Woodward Academy varsity baseball team, was named the team’s MVP for the 2006 season. Condon, a Peachtree City resident, hit .456 for the season and missed the post-season’s opening series against Alexander but was able to play in the Luella series. He went 4-for-8 in the series and drove in five RBIs.

• Local qualifiers for the Yamaha Atlanta Open, to be held at Dunwoody Country Club, from the qualifying tournament at Orchard Hills golf Club on May 23 were:

• Benjamin Creighton, 8th, Flat Creek Golf Clubm 73

• Wendell Coffee, 18th, Wendell Coffee Golf Center, 76

• Chance Griffin, 18th, Canongate on White Oak, 76

• Scott Hentosz, 23rd, Orchard Hills, 78, second alternate

• Erik Tedder, 23rd, Braelinn Golf Club, 78, third alternate

• Seth Bales, an amateur from the Flat Creek Golf Club, qualified for the Yamaha Atlanta Open at Dunwoody Country Club on June 12-13, as a fourth alternate. Bales shot an 85 at the Stone Mountain Golf Club on May 25.
