Brent Brewer, a recent Sandy Creek High School graduate, and Lee Hyde, a Fayette County High school graduate currently with Georgia Tech's baseball team in a hunt for the College World Series, have both been drafted by major league teams on the first day of the draft.

Brewer, who committed to attend Florida State University to play football on National Signing Day, was chosen by the Milwaukee Brewers as the 60th pick of the draft. Brewer, 6'2, 190, bats and throws right and played shortstop this past season for the Patriots. Scouts on MLB.com listed his speed as a major attribute and feel he could play in the outfield.

Hyde, Tech's most experienced pitcher this season, was chosen by the Atlanta Braves with the 130th overall pick. Hyde, 6'2, 185, has gone 5-0 thus far this season with one save, pitching a lot of relief. A left handed pitcher, Hyde pitched in 71.1 innings and recorded a 3.15 ERA while earning 58 strikeouts.
