Friends had to battle to medal at AAU Nationals
Oh Do Kwan Martial Arts in Fayetteville sent 11 students to the AAU National Tae Kwon Do Championships in Knoxville, Tenn. earlier this month, and eight of the 11 students medaled.

Pioneers compete at 2006 Georgia GamesDespite the sweltering heat and the threatening storms, the SouthSide Pioneers concluded their team season at the 2006 Georgia Games Championships held at Marietta High School last weekend. All gold, silver, and bronze medalists have advanced to the 2007 State Games of America to be held next year at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. Notable• The Woodcreek Waves, a local swimming team, had four swimmers qualify for the state meet. Mets win titleThe Fayette County Mets recently won the AABC Pee Wee Reese Divison 2 championship at Kiwanis Park in Fayetteville. Dooley having a fast and furious summer on the trackBrooks’ Matt Dooley, 10 is having his racing dreams come true. He won the Bandolero INEX Regional Qualifier at Sunny South Raceway in Mobile, Ala. on June 17. He competed against drivers from Texas, Florida, Mississippi, and Alabama for this regional win. The 2006 Fayette Summer League Swimming Championships were held June 24 at the Peachtree City Kedron Fieldhouse and Aquatic Center and it turned out to be one for the books.
Stinchcomb brothers team up with past and present Bulldogs to raise money for kidsPeachtree City resident Matt Stinchcomb, who is a former member of the University of Georgia Bulldog football team and the Tampa Bay Bucaneers, and his brother Jon, also a former Bulldog and current member of the New Orleans Saints, like to help out children. The brothers have a foundation that was created for this purpose but they also want to assist non-profit organizations that aid children in need. They also wanted to get to know some of the current players on their former team, so they teamed up with former teammates Charles Grant, David Greene and Jermaine Phillips, as well as some current members of the Georgia Bulldogs football team, and put together an event that will raise funds for several organizations. Hospital waives new member fee for fitness centerIt’s not too late to get fit for summer! Piedmont Fayette Hospital’s Rehabilitation and Fitness Center wants to help you reach your fitness goal. During July, the Fitness Center is waiving its $50 new member initiation fee. After finishing 2005 with a record of 56–6 and winning the 2005 Barrett-Fletcher World Series, the Bulldogs continue their success this year by winning the 2006 Georgia Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) State Championship.
Red Wings are district champs
The Fayette County Red Wings won the Georgia AABC Pee Wee Reese district championship. The 12U baseball team went 11-3 during the regular season to finish in 2nd place. The tournament was held at the Hidden Valley Park in Fairview.
Notable• Brittany Jackson, a libero from Fayette County High School in Fayetteville, has signed to attend and play volleyball for Valdosta State University. Jackson has experience playing the outside hitter and setter positions. Region all star tournament in PTC starts July 1Peachtree City Little League is hosting a regional tournament for the 2006 All-Stars, July 1-7. Participating leagues will include Senoia, West Point, Brooks, South Fulton and West Coweta, as well as Peachtree City. The opening ceremony will take place July 1 at the Baseball Soccer Complex on Georgia Hwy 74. Southside Pioneers track team set for a busy summerThe SouthSide Pioneers are headed to the AAU 40th annual Junior Olympic Games Track and Field Championships to be held July 28- Aug. 5 at Norfolk State University. Lineman Challenge, July 15Velocity Sports Performance in Peachtree City will host their annual Lineman’s Challenge on Saturday, July 15. There will be two divisions; JV for ninth and 10th graders and Varsity for 11th and 12th graders. Each division will have two weight classes; under 200 and over 200 for JV and under 225 and over 225 for Varsity. Trophies will be awarded to the top finishers in each of the four weight classes.
