• Five local racers have been making their mark thus far in the 2006 Thursday Thunder season at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Fayetteville’s Jonathan Chandler has won all four John Deer Outlaws races, while Peachtree City’s Ed Clark is in second place in the John Deere Roadsters division. Brooks’ Matt Dooley and Billy Fulson both got their first top five finishes last week. Dooley took fifth in the Atlanta Dental Team Bandits division, while Fulson placed second in the Back Yard Burgers Semi-Pro division. Tyrone’s Steve Fessler is fifth in the points standings in the McDonough Hospitality and Tourism Chargers division.

• Jesse Lenze, a McIntosh graduate and member of two state champion soccer teams, will transfer from Vanderbilt University to the University of Georgia this year. Lenze was selected to the 2005 SEC All-Freshman team and was the third leading scorer for the Lady Commodores with five goals and two assists. She made two starts last year and played in all 23 games for the team. As a pre-business major, she also made the dean’s list twice.

Lenze must red-shirt for the 2006 season at the University of Georgia but will be able to practice with the squad. She plans on entering the business school and working towards a degree in real estate. Georgia’s coach, Patrick Baker, was Lenze’s coach on an Olympic Development team.

Lenze will join former McIntosh teammate Joni Vickers on the squad.
