Olympic gold medalist runs clinic for clubTue, 06/20/2006 - 2:28pm

In the summer of 2005, Coach Ryan Mallam and Coach Jamey Myers of the Southern Crescent Aquatic Team made a trip up to Emory University to meet with world record holder and Olympic Gold Medalist Ian Crocker. Mallam, an assistant coach of the Southern Crescent Aquatic Team and Head Artist Relations Representative of J Nunis Custom Guitars had learned that Crocker was a guitar player. The light bulb went off and Mallam made an agreement with Crocker to have him run a swim clinic with payment of a J Nunis Custom Guitar. A year after the meeting with Crocker, the senior group of the Southern Crescent Aquatic Team was in the water being coached by the fastest swimmer in the world. Crocker first spoke with the group about his background as a swimmer and then took questions about his experiences. He then instructed the group in the water on stroke technique, turns, and starts. After an hour and a half in the water the clinic was concluded with an autograph and picture session. Many happy faces were present as Crocker signed magazines, pictures, and caps. Unfortunately, Jim Nunis of J Nunis Custom Guitars recently passed away of cancer. This clinic was a way to celebrate Nunis’ life by presenting Crocker with a guitar that was hand built by Nunis in connection with Peachtree City’s Southern Crescent Aquatic Team.
