Bynum racks up softball awards

Bonnie Bynum, a Fayette County High School graduate and member of the 2002 state champion softball team, was recently named Ohio Valley Conference Female Athlete of the Year, after being named Pitcher of the Year and the league softball tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Bynum, a junior at Tennessee Tech, set single season records for victories (31), strikeouts (308) and innings pitched (266.1), while also taking the career lead in the same categories.

She also broke the single game record for strikeouts in a game then broke it again in the same week. She was named OVC Pitcher of the Week twice in 2006, was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association All-South Region second team and was named to her second consecutive All-OVC First team roster.

Just through her junior year, Bynum has recorded 69 wins, 691 strikeouts and 612.2 innings pitched. She is also ranked among NCAA pitching leaders, with 31 wins and and a 1.08 ERA. In 2006, Bynum also recorded four saves and 14 shutouts
