The region 4-AAAA playoffs continued on Wednesday night and the results were mixed; split right down the middle for the boys and girls teams at McIntosh and Whitewater. The Lady Chiefs traveled to Chapel Hill and won 3-0. The game was called at the half due to weather but it was long enough for them to secure the win. Kaelyn Horton scored twice for McIntosh, while Kerri Reid notched the other goal. Recording assists for the girls team were Brittany Schneider and Kelsey Quinn. McIntosh will play Woodward Academy on the road Friday at 6 p.m. for the region championship. The McIntosh boys hosted Woodward on Wednesday and lost 3-2 after the game went to shootout. Woodward struck first and though Hughston Taylor evened things up with under 12 minutes to go in the first half, Woodward took another lead with just under four minutes left in the half. McIntosh would tie the game in the second half with a goal from Derek Farnsworth and stayed deadlocked through two overtimes, but Woodward won the game on penalty kicks and will play at Whitewater at 7 p.m. Friday in the region championship, while McIntosh will face Northgate at home at 7:30 p.m. The Vikings lost to the Chiefs 7-0 on March 28. Whitewater’s boys defeated Northgate 3-2 in the second overtime to advance to the region final. The Wildcats got goals from Josh Adair, Kyle Weston and Chandler Caudelle. It wasn’t all good news for Whitewater though as defender Ryan Madura broke his leg in three places in the first half. The Lady Wildcats faced Woodward Academy and lost 6-0. The loss forces them to travel to Chapel Hill Friday at 6 p.m. for a game to determine the third and fourth seeds in the region. Sandy Creek’s boys and girls won’t make the state playoffs but both got wins in the losers bracket of the region tournament. The boys beat Creekside 5-1 and got a forfeit win over Villa Rica, while the girls beat Creekside 8-0 and then defeated Lithia Springs 4-1. In region 4-AAAAA, Starr’s Mill hosted Fayette County last night after the paper went to press. The girls game would determine the region championship, while the boys have already wrapped up the title. On Tuesday, the Lady Tigers of Fayette County tied LaGrange 1-1 with Alex Bennett scoring the lone goal, while the boys won 5-3, getting goals from Sean Pietromonaco (2), Chris Feigenbaum, Jonathan Collier and Ryan Whitehead. East Coweta’s girls, rooting for a Fayette County win over Starr’s Mill to force a three way tie for first, will play Newnan Friday to closeout the regular season. The Lady Indians (15-2) beat Fayette County 1-0 last Friday. The boys (8-7-2) also defeated Fayette County last Friday in a shootout 4-3. The boys need a win over Newnan to assure themselves a spot in the playoffs. The games will be played at East Coweta with the girls game at 5:30 p.m. and the boys game following. login to post comments |
